The market remains fragmented as the Tech related and Small Cap
Indices are well below their 52 week highs while at the same time the Dow, NYSE
Comp and S&P 500 are near their 52 week highs. Meanwhile as an
investor you have to be aware that individual stocks will usually correct more
than the major indices themselves. From mid March through mid April
the Nasdaq corrected roughly 10%. 
However when you look at some
individual stocks like AMZN and TWTR for example they have corrected far more
than 10%. AMZN has corrected roughly 30% this year while TWTR has fallen
60%. Thus as you can see although the Nasdaq has only fallen 10%
previous high flyers such as AMZN and TWTR have corrected considerably
more. 
Finally keep in mind there is no
guarantee that a stock will completely recover and make new highs. For
example YHOO was a darling of Wall Street back in the late 1990's as it peaked
around $125 (adjusted for splits). 15 years later it's still trading 70%
below its all time high. Investors who bought this stock in the late
1990's and still hold it will likely never recover their losses.
Thus buying a stock and holding it for several years doesn't always work
well.
